The Avery Philosophy

Photographing people—at work, at play, at rest—is my passion.

Early in my career I discovered that I had a gift for putting people at ease in front of the lens, whether they are on the margins of society or members of the executive board. Today, care facilities, schools, advocacy organizations, service industries and hospitals call upon me to help tell their story: people helping, healing, teaching, caring for and learning from other people.

My approach to an assignment is this: I show up with creative energy, technical skills, patience, openness to every possibility...and then help people forget I'm there. When I let the subject or the situation direct what happens next, wonderful things happen.

Take a look at my photographs. Let them speak for me...and, ultimately, for you.
